Had another profound experience with my peer coach of ICA yesterday. We are finished officially, but we developed a friendship which I value deeply and we remain in contact and call once in a while. I outlined a fear that I had. A fear around a closure in my life. I identify this feeling as a self sabotaging action. All is great, everything is settled. But I have a fear that it will go wrong. There are no signs for that at all, but the fear exists. First, an acknowledgment. The closure is a big thing, Charles said. For me, a realization happened immediately: I’ve been taking this too lightly. How about acknowledging to myself that this is no small deal. It created space, space essential for the rest of the conversation. Charles’ coaching with me revolves around a room. A room outside of what we call reality. It’s attached to my being instead of my physical self. It’s outside “reality” but that makes it not less real. A room in which I can rest. In which I have a beautiful view of nature. In...

Flexibele werktijden minder belangrijk
Afgelopen zomer hebben veel van ons dat moment weer gehad: Je ligt op het strand of zit op dat terrasje of bent sprakeloos van het overweldigende uitzicht...

Everything at ICA tends to be a great experience. But some teachers stand out even from that. One of them is Alan Seale. In the spiritual community of practice, he suggested a simple but very powerful coaching model. The starting point in this is a situation. It doesn’t matter so much what the situation is. It could be a personal issue, like: my relationship is over or a professional issue like: I cannot work with this person. The 4 levels are: 1. Drama. “I said this and that, then he said this, what was he thinking?”. Somebody or something else (maybe the universe) is doing it to you. “Why does this happen always to me”. Feeling miserable because nobody and nothing grants you the right to feel happy is probable here. 2. Situation. “OK, so he said this and that, now how can we continue?”. There is some acceptance. It happened period. Now, how can we fix it? What are solutions to this problem? Maybe there is a tendency to fix it quickly and...

Once upon a time there was a planet. The planet was beautiful. Everything was just right. The distance from the sun was just right. The size of the one moon was just right. The fact that the axis of the planet tilted a bit created seasons, which were just right. All was there to sustain and nourish life. And the planet was swarming with the most unbelievable forms of life.Earth was the most beautiful planet in its region of space. On the planet was a special kind of life, more miraculous than anything on and about the planet. This form of life was called the human race. Humans had a beautiful, ingenious body, capable of adapting to almost any situation. The brain of humans was evolved into a wonder of its own. Humans not only had the ability to learn things very quickly, but the learned, when practiced or experienced often, could become automatic and unconscious, enabling humans to focus on new things. That great ability also had a downside. It was difficult to enjoy current things for long. Humans were seekers....

What is the truth? This question we asked ourselves during an ICA teleclass entitled “truth vs fraud”. Truth is relative to the person holding the truth. The ultimate truth does not exist. Sounds like Einstein. Having said that, I’d like to point out to you that this is only a portion of the truth. Let me describe the chair I sit on to you: It has four legs, you can sit on it and it’s green. It’s all true, but it’s not the entire truth. I can’t give you the whole truth, because it’s impossible for me to give you all the ins and outs and the countless ways to look at it. Truth is always a perspective, a way to look at it. The chair looks different depending on where I am. When I sit on it and look down, it looks entirely different than when I go stand a few meters or farther away. So my description of the truth would change. Because other things stand out depending on perspective. Also, I could mention things about the chair that are relative in itself. Relativity inside relativity :-) For...

Our nature is that we are creators. We have the ability to create our own life. In most cases, we are perceiving reality the other way around: events are happening to us by chance, or we have certain (unconscious) beliefs that the universe, or God is doing it to us again. To get started, you have to know that we have to use two things to create: Our mind to conceive and to send the message out to the universe, tell it what we want by imagining. The universe responds by creating the thing we want in the quantum field. Our body is about emotions. For every thought is an emotional reaction, executed by the body. The body doesn't know the difference between something that is happening for real and something we're imagining. The only way to get to materialize in this reality what you created, is to have the same vibrating frequency as the object in de quantum field. You can do that by feeling what you would feel if you got it. Do as if you already received it. A very powerful emotion is to be thankful...

Just now, I experienced another great teleclass called “Intention”. That’s a subject that fascinates me for a while now. I’ve read Lynne McTaggart’s book “ The Intention Experiment” and I attended her workshop, with some amazing results. In the workshop, we sat around in a circle of about 8 people with one person in the middle with some physical problem. We quickly got into a meditative state and consciously were setting an intention to relieve the discomfort. In advance, we took some time to find right words for that. The results were astonishing, varying from people who had a bit of relief, to people who were instantly free of the discomfort. In almost all cases the discomfort grew larger first and then it then quickly diminished in strength. Think about this. With our intentions, which are focused thoughts, we can literally change our physical reality. That’s immensely powerful. It gets even more...

In a class this week a fellow student told the group about Strengths 2.0, a book and assessment to find your strengths. It appealed to me because of the positive approach and the way the fellow student talked about it. Ordered a copy, details will follow. In the class “Developing tools” I came across the trainer Coach Nakumbe. He has a very practical way to look at things and gave on of the most interesting sessions so far. His style probably matches with me, because I’m a concrete do-er. When stuff is presented to me in an abstract form I have to do spend a lot of energy to stay on board. And yesterday there was a gem of a class: “Creating Awareness” by the very nice Joanne Waldman. Turns out this is a topic where I feel like a fish in water. It matches my activities around Eckhart Tolle’s work and my workshop. Some people told me that my talking...

I really liked the session today with Jamee Tenzer. She’s brilliant with listening to people, while keeping them in their value and then deducting the essence from what they’re saying. The former sounds like the definition of a great coach :-) Anyways, didn’t get a chance to talk, because of the size of the class (I think there were around 40 persons!), so I really have the urge to write about it. Here are my take-aways: Everybody plans in their own way, and that’s ok if it works for them. Before the call I read the PDF about it and I didn’t look forward to taking the class. I thought I didn’t have a plan. You see, the reason I like ICA is that you can take everything on your own time, I love the flexibility of it. I have a son of 1 year old and a son of 4 and I love being a dad. Also, I have my own company with work that is very ad-hoc and in different places. So, I figured: my goal is to become a certified coach and I do classes as much as I can, but I have no schedule for it. So, there...

I started today with a call with my peer coach. We talked about trust. Things that happen are just things that happen. They’re only good or bad if we label them as such. Also, you can trust the things that happen, happen not for nothing. They are opportunities to live your live purpose in some way. Not opposing the circumstance is a way of saying thanks to the universe or God if you will. Later on, I followed an ICA teleclass named “Power Listening”. It confirmed a bit I already know about the topic, but there was one great takeaway: allow some silence when a client stops talking. Before you bring in your ideas, paraphrase etc. That’s actually very powerful, because silence, space is the unmanifested. And that’s where our essential core as a person is as well. Finally, a teleclass called “Values and Life Purpose”. The term value has been abstract for me, couldn’t really lay my finger on it. Turns out that’s not so strange. Every person has another definition for what a value is. Some of the responses: ...
